HEAT AND HUMOUR FOR ROYALS IN INDIA

30 MARCH 2006

The Duchess of Cornwall once again demonstrated her unfailing humour when scorching temperatures in India almost overcame her. "Gosh, I wish they would turn the thermostat down a bit," she quipped after the royal doctor was summoned to assist her through a faint spell.

Camilla and Prince Charles were continuing their six-day tour of India with a visit to Artiya in Rajasthan when the 42-degree heat twice obliged The Duchess to shelter in the shade while she recovered her cool.

But despite the difficult moments, Camilla maintained her humour, smiling gratefully at her husband when he came to the rescue by plying her with a huge, colourful fan, and affectionately returning the favour next day.

On Thursday, the royal couple are due to attend the closing ceremony of the Rajasthan Day celebrations in Jaipur, which is known as the 'pink city' because of the distinctive shade of its terracotta houses.
