ANNE TAKES TO THE HELM AT YACHTING CELEBRATIONS

She's well known for her love of the ocean wave so it was no surprise to see Princess Anne getting stuck into the action at Tollesbury marina this week. The royal sailor looked very much at home as she took a ride on a small motor launch, taking to the prow with rope in hand as her small party left the landing stage.

Anne was visiting the Essex harbour to help the local sailing club celebrate its 70th anniversary, and the senior royal certainly fitted in with the yachting fraternity in her navy blazer and deck shoes.

One delighted young fan was chosen to present the high-profile guest with a posy of flowers as she met some teenage sailing cadets in the brilliant September sunshine. It's a busy week for the Queen's hard-working daughter whose seafaring duties continue on Wednesday with a visit to HMS Albion off the Plymouth coast.

The princess will no doubt be looking forward to Friday when she will witness the famous bun-throwing ceremonies in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, as part of the 450th Royal Charter anniversary celebrations. Town councillors will hurl 450 currant buns from the top of the county hall, a tradition that began in 1760 to mark the coronation of King George III and has been repeated since then on special occasions.
