London's West End was treated to a royal visit this week as Prince Charles stepped out with the Duchess of Cornwall for a night at the movies. The regal pair, who were attending the glitzy film premiere of The History Boys, exuded film star glamour as they arrived on the red carpet.

Camilla made an ultra elegant entrance in a fitted ivory jacket and flowing eau de nile skirt, accessorised with emerald earrings and matching brooch, while her husband kept to a classic dinner jacket ensemble. The couple met members of the cast, including Harry Potter actor Richard Griffiths, who also starred in the highly acclaimed stage version of The History Boys.

And the heir-to-the-throne was clearly keen to whip up support for the adaptation, asking reporters: "Have you seen the play? It's very funny." Playwright Alan Bennett, 72, was no doubt delighted by the royal seal of approval and revealed Charles was "always a good audience". "He laughs a lot, which gets the audience laughing," he added.

The History Boys revolves around a group of grammar school students aiming to get into Oxbridge, and won a raft of prestigious awards when it hit theatres, scooping four Olivier awards in the UK and six Tonys when it transferred to Broadway. Its screen debut at Leicester Square's Odeon cinema had added interest for Charles as the first TV advert for his charity The Prince's Trust was also shown during the screening.
