Princess Madeleine's fiancé finds support in future brother-in-law during crisis rumours

15 APRIL 2010

As rumours of a crisis continue to surround Princess Madeleine's relationship with fiancé Jonas Bergstrom, the Swedish lawyer has found support in Princess Victoria's husband-to-be Daniel Westling.

Daniel, who knows all too well the pressures of being engaged to a princess, has met with Jonas to give him advice and support, reports national newspaper Aftonbladet.

And there's proof they've seen each other – pictures have emerged of Daniel dropping Jonas off by car at the house he shares with Madeleine in the Ostermalm district of central Stockholm. Daniel left him at around 11pm before continuing on his way to the royal palace.

Jonas and Daniel have become close friends through their relationships with Madeleine and Victoria. The two men bonded over their love of ice hockey and sport in general – Daniel is the owner of a chain of successful gyms.

They've been spotted out on double dates with the two princesses on various occasions and – when their girlfriends have been busy – have gone out together alone.

The Swedish royal family were due to travel to Copenhagen on Thursday to attend the 70th birthday celebrations of Queen Margrethe. But while Princess Victoria and Daniel are definitely going, the attendance of both Madeleine and her lawyer fiancé is yet to be confirmed.

The Swedish press are seeing this as more evidence that stories of trouble in the couple's relationship are true, despite assurances that "everything is fine" from Queen Silvia.

Madeleine and Jonas - who have been together since 2002 - have not appeared in public together since December, and friends of the couple say they've been living separately since January.

Apparently attempts they made at reconciliation during their holiday to Thailand in February failed. An anonymous source has signified that the split is definite and that only the proximity of Victoria's June wedding is stopping it from being made official.

Princess Madeleine will journey alone on Saturday to America on a two week trip that was arranged before claims were made of her relationship troubles. While there she'll be carrying out duties in connection with her work for the World Childhood Foundation, which was founded by Queen Silvia.
