The Duchess, who wore a navy military-style dress with gold buttons, was said to be very pleased to be undertaking the role for a regiment "so close to her husband's heart".
Kate's dress and a matching fascinator were complimented with a gold shamrock brooch loaned to her from the regiment.
She also wore a gold linked bracelet with a circular tag engraved with the letter 'C' for Catherine.
