Mary, princess of hugs, gives Mathilde and Mette-Marit a warm welcome
27 JANUARY 2012There's no doubt about the warmth of the friendships between Mary of Denmark and her fellow European princesses.
Meeting her Belgian counterpart Mathilde at an official soiree, with their two husbands, the Australian-born royal looked genuinely delighted to see her again.

That the occasion was marking Denmark's presidency of the EU Council didn't stop it having the feel of a get together between pals.
It was the same story a few days earlier. When Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway and her husband Haakon travelled to Copenhagen to help Mary's mother-in-law Queen Margrethe celebrate the ruby jubilee of her ascension to the throne.
After the regal splendour of the evening gala, with a roll call of VIPS, draped in jewels, Mary and Mette-Marit headed for lunch and some shopping.
When the two ladies said goodbye, the popular Danish royal enveloped her friend in a huge hug.
