Monaco royal needs hospital treatment after nightclub incident

21 FEBRUARY 2012 Pierre Casiraghi was left with cuts to the face after an incident at the weekend in a New York bar.

The son of Monaco's Princess Caroline, (pictured left) was on a night out in the trendy Meatpacking district when the brawl broke out.

Former club owner Adam Hock, 47, was arrested and charged with assaulting the royal and three of his friends.

"I was defending myself and others," he told Manhattan Criminal Court on Sunday. "Why aren't (the royal and his friends) handcuffed?"

The businessman is due back in court next month.

Pierre, 24, and his friends including Greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos, who once dated Paris Hilton, and French art dealer Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld got into the argument in the Double Seven nightclub.

The Monegasque royal's longtime girlfriend Beatrice Borromeo (below right), with whom he attended the recent wedding of his uncle Prince Albert to Charlene Wittstock, does not appear to have been present.

The scuffle apparently started over a bottle of vodka that Adam had been drinking with models Natasha Poly, Valentina Zalyaeva and Anja Rubik.

Police told People magazine: "At 2:22 a.m. Sunday police responded to a call at 63 Gansevoort Street and were met by the complainant, during which he said the defendant punched him in the face."

"Pierre's face looked broken, with deep cuts and blood everywhere," one witness told the New York Post. "He looked like he needed plastic surgery."

He was treated at the New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell MedicalCentre before being released.

Officials from the royal palace refused to comment.

Pierre is Caroline's son by late Italian businessman Stefano Casiraghi who died in a boating accident in 1990.

Along with his brother Andrea and sister Charlotte, he is well known on the European social scene.
