High ceremony and emotion at past European royal christenings

22 OCTOBER 2013 As Prince William and Kate Middleton prepare for the christening of their baby George HELLO! Online takes a look at how the European royals have celebrated the births of their little Princes and Princess.

Unlike the British royal families these are usually public - not private - occasions. So pomp and grandeur is intermingled with genuinely touching family moments.

When the Prince and Princess of Spain christened their daughter Sofia for instance, her big sister Leonor stole the limelight with her cute antics.


Meanwhile, Mary of Denmark looked like any proud mother as she showed off her twins in 2011 - but the curtseys and bows of the congregation when the royal party passed by give away their true status.
