Kate Middleton has surprising fans in Anne Hathaway and Katie Hopkins

Anne Hathaway has revealed her favourite royal is the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, because she makes her happy.

Having starred as a princess herself in The Princess Diaries, Oscar winner Anne was asked by a six-year-old fan who her favourite princess was.

Anne first told the little girl that she was her favourite princess before adding: "My favourite princess is Kate Middleton, but she's a duchess. She's a princess too, right? I'll go with Kate Middleton."

When pressed further, Anne admitted that she thinks that the Duchess of Cambridge, who is currently on tour in New Zealand with her husband Prince William and their son Prince George, is lovely.

Speaking on Good Morning America, Anne said: "I think she's lovely. She makes me very happy and that royal wedding just could not be beat."

Another fan of Kate’s was revealed this week - controversial columnist and social commentator Katie Hopkins.

"Kate Middleton is fabulous. I love her. Lovely baby - no worries. Packing for 30 gigs - no drama. Long haul flight fresh as a daisy – nailed", tweeted Katie to her nearly 155,000 followers.

"Kate does not have an army of support. She has assistance enabling her to do her job. She is the new face of feminism. And she rocks it", added Katie.

Katie, who was dropped from ITV’s This Morning following a petition from the British public, has previously spoken up for Kate when the Duchess was criticised for holidaying without her son, Prince George.

"The stay-at-homers are flapping their bingo wings in fury. How dare she leave her baby? What a terrible mother! How could you do that at eight months – EIGHT MONTHS? I am with Kate on this one", she said back in March.

Kate and Prince William arrived yesterday in the southern hemisphere on their first royal tour with their son who was born in July 2013.

The family have begun a a ten-day visit to the Antipodean country before they will journey on to Australia.
