The Countess of Wessex and her family enjoyed a day out at Ascot on Saturday. Sophie and her husband Prince Edward and their two children Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn were out and about The Christmas Meeting at the famous Berkshire racecourse.

Sophie, 49, who was dressed in a smart grey skirt, matching jacket, tights and black boots, was charged with presenting prizes including a bottle of champagne to the day's winners.

Keen horse riding fans, Sophie, Edward, Louise, 11, and James, seven, were all seen scouring the day's programme of eventsno doubt sizing up the competitors and hoping to spot a winner.

The day out is an annual affair for the Queen's youngest son and his family.

Last year the Countess was snapped sporting a green and grey plaid coat with a magenta velvet collar and buttons, smiling and looking relaxed and she shared a joke with Louise. Sophie's day out at Ascot was one of her last engagements before she heads to Sandrigham with Edward, Louise and James to join the royal family for their Christmas celebrations.
