The A–Z of William and Kate's second royal baby

Share this:

Royal baby fever is gathering momentum as William and Kate count down the days until they become parents for the second time. Just as they were in July 2013, when Prince George was born, all eyes will soon be on the doors of the Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, eagerly waiting to see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge present their new son or daughter. While many royal watchers are keenly discussing the newborn's gender, name and potential godparents, the prospective parents have more logistical issues to consider in the run-up to the birth.

Prince William will be working right up until Kate goes into labour

The Duchess of Cambridge is spending the final days of her pregnancy at Kensington Palace, while her husband’s training for his new job with East Anglia Air Ambulance sees him based at airfields in Cambridge, Norwich and Staverton in Gloucestershire. Prince William therefore faces a hospital dash of up to 118 miles if he receives the news that Kate is in labour during his working hours. When the time comes, William's journey will be aided by a police escort and there is also the possibility that he could fly by helicopter if he's in a real hurry.

Prince George will soon have a little brother or sister

Should Kate happen to go into labour while she's not in London, however, other hospitals have been put on standby. The couple's contingency plans include a hospital in Norfolk if the Duchess is at Anmer Hall and the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, where Kate herself was born, if she's at Carole and Michael Middleton's home in Bucklebury when she goes into labour.Once the youngster has arrived, attention will shift to whether the fourth in line to the throne is a little girl or boy and whether Prince George will join his parents to present the baby to the waiting public.

Royal fashion enthusiasts will be keen to see what Kate chooses to wear when she presents her second born

Fashion fans will also be looking at what Kate chooses to wear when she leaves the Lindo Wing and whether she will once again pay tribute to her husband's late mother Diana with her sartorial choice. After several days in London, the family will then head to Anmer Hall on the Sandringham Estate, which will be their base for the time being. No doubt the newborn's doting grandparents will pay numerous visits to the Norfolk country house and it may fall to Kate's amateur photographer father Michael Middleton to capture the first official pictures of the new arrival as he did with Prince George two years ago.
