Kate reveals Prince George thinks he is 3 years old

Prince George has just entered the terrible twos, but age-wise it seems the rosy-cheeked charmer is getting a bit ahead of himself. George's mum the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, has revealed that her son - who celebrated his second birthday on 22 July - actually thinks he is three years old.

The mother-of-two revealed the funny fact during Sunday's America's Cup World Series, where she hoped to join Prince William in cheering on Britain's Land Rover BAR sailing team. Unfortunately, heavy rain meant the races had to be cancelled and the royal couple instead toured the facilities at the Royal Navy Base in Portsmouth.

During the visit, Kate met the toddler son of the sailing team's head coach Rob Wilson. "Hello, Princess, my name is Freddie Wilson," he said as he stepped forward. His mother Wendy Maxwell later told reporters, "She asked him how old he was and he said, 'I'm three.' When I said he is only two, she said, 'George says that. He thinks that he's older."

Another mum named Rebecca said that Kate met her two-year-old George Mills, although her other son, 13-week-old Harry, had nodded off. "Kate asked George if he likes Peppa Pig," she recalled, "and said she hoped Charlotte would be doing a lot of sleeping, too. "The Duchess seemed to be charming parents and kids alike as she entertained some of the youngsters with her upbeat chats, and even comforted one little crying girl in particular. Kate was also given a few gifts from the families, including matching fleeces for her children from sisters Ella and Millie Morgan, whose mother is Jo Grindley, the BAR team's commercial director.

"She said they were very nice, she said 'I'm sure they will fit perfectly'," Ella told reporters, while Millie added that the Duchess said the tops were "cute".

Kate was dressed sensibly for the wet and windy day by the coast, wearing jeans, her favourite Breton-style top by British brand ME+EM, and a fleece emblazoned with the BAR logo and her title "The Duchess of Cambridge" on the back. Completing the casual look were a pair of Sebago slip-on shoes - which the pretty debuted in June, on an outing to the polo with Prince George.

Royal watchers are used to seeing the mum-of-two dressed to the nines, but Kate still managed to look her effortlessly glamorous self in her laid-back, nautical outfit and high ponytail.
