  • Her own divorce
Camilla silently endured the abuse, but it can’t have been easy. She was shouted at in the street, heckled while out riding and on one occasion had bread rolls thrown at her while shopping in her local supermarket.

Though her husband Andrew, a former Silver Stick-in-Waiting to the Queen and godson to the Queen Mother, had known of the affair, now that it was public knowledge the couple thought it best to go their separate ways and they divorced in 1995. Despite this the two have always remained good friends and Andrew, who married Rosemary Pitman a year later, still attends many of Camilla’s family events.

Following her divorce Camilla soon became a regular visitor at Highgrove. Once her and Andrew’s family home had been sold and the assets divided, she bought a property just 16 miles away from the Prince’s Gloucestershire country house. When the Prince was in residence Camilla would stay with him.
