Prince Rainer's youngest child is the first to admit she has broken all the rules governing how a princess "should" behave. In the late Sixties, when she was an infant, family friends say Stephanie demonstrated two particularly noticeable traits – affection and rebelliousness. In the decades that followed, these same characteristics would come to underpin a royal life less ordinary.
As a child she studied at Catholic schools in Paris before moving on to a secular institution where she excelled in art. Upon graduating in 1982 the young princess announced she would pursue a career on the catwalk. Since she had inherited her mother's beauty, this didn't seem an unrealistic ambition, but modelling would prove to be just the first of many career choices. Over the years she has also tried her hand at being a photographer, designer, entrepreneur and, perhaps most memorably, a pop singer. She has also launched her own perfume and dabbled in the restaurant business with an eatery called the Replay Café.
