While most people would think it unusual for a
mother to miss the remarriage of her eldest
son, the Queen regards herself as Head of State first, and wife, mother and grandmother second.
Throughout her life she has adhered to certain
principles and precedents. So even something as
personal as a family wedding can be a minefield of
royal protocol that makes perfect sense to Her Majesty and her advisers, but can be confusing to outsiders.
