After her November 2005 wedding the new princess plunged into a hectic schedule of official visits, impressing everyone she met with her heart-felt enthusiasm and by making a speech in her adopted tongue just three months after beginning lessons.
A keen linguist, she quickly added the notoriously difficult Danish language to her repertoire of English, French, German, Japanese and Cantonese. "It was my decision to learn the language immediately," she explained. "It would have been terrible to have to stand up and speak English at an engagement, or thank someone for something. This is my home and there was no other option."
