LOOKING TO THE FUTURE
When the summer term ends at St George's Ascot, the £21,000-a-year public school where Beatrice is head girl, the level-headed young lady is off to America. There she'll join her little sister Eugenie on an internship as a personal assistant to her mother, who has a base in Manhattan. The elder York girl is said to be so at home in the States she hopes to follow the example of Princess Michael's daughter and study at an Ivy League college.

Whatever destiny she eventually chooses, Beatrice will always be aware of the expectation that she be a credit to her family. Perhaps it is this which motivated the hard-working student in her struggle with dyslexia, resulting in nine GCSE passes. "A real grafter" is how one family friend describes the royal teen.

Beatrice is also mindful of her mother's experience as a working royal. "If Sarah has taught her daughter anything, it's that she has to earn her own way," adds the insider. "She won't be expecting any free handouts."
