    Her grandchildren

They call her granny and each shares a special bond with the royal matriarch. Zara Phillips likes to discuss her equestrian career with her, while Eugenie helps by handing around cakes at her tea parties. In Beatrice's opinion: "She's the most amazing woman anyone could ever meet. I just love her to bits."

It's not only the girls who have a special place in the Queen's heart, as was clear when she attended a passing out ceremony at Sandhurst earlier this year. While inspecting the new officers, the doting grandmother brought a blush and a smile to the face of one particular graduate when stopped in front of Prince Harry and joked: "Now here's a face I recognise!"

The eldest of the royal grandchildren, Princess Anne's son Peter Phillips is recognised as being especially popular with both his grandparents. And when Peter and his sister Zara were students at Gordonstoun in Scotland the Queen took a special trip to see them, the only time she's visited any of her grandchildren at school.
