EXPLORER ALBERT
As Monaco's sovereign Prince Albert enjoys an undeniably comfortable lifestyle, but he also has a yen for pushing himself to the limits. This has led the intrepid royal - who in the past has served on the principality's Olympic bobsleigh squad to test himself in one of the world's most challenging environments.

In the summer of 2006 he left behind the balmy climes of his Mediterranean homeland to spend four days in the sub-zero temperatures of the Arctic Circle. Along with a seven-strong team and 42 dogs, the prince trekked across the ice from the polar drifting station of Camp Barneo to the North Pole. His aim was to raise awareness of environmental issues and commemorate the exploits of his forbear and namesake Albert I, who explored the Arctic 100 years earlier.
