It seemed that as soon as the surprise engagement was announced in November, fervour surrounding the royal nuptials began to mount. "Letizia-mania" soon took hold as everything from custom-made sweets to a rock opera were inspired by the stunning royal bride-to-be.
Five months before the nuptials, the Spanish public snapped up limited-edition almond-flavoured "Doņa Letizia" sweets in the future princess' home region of Asturias. Kilos of the hand-made nougat-like holiday candy bar, called turron, flew off the shelves, selling out in just a few hours.
