In the aftermath of the attacks, wedding festivities have been somewhat scaled back, at the request of the royal couple.
An informal party with close personal friends that was to have taken place two days before the wedding was cancelled in a gesture of solidarity with the victims and their families.
A May 17 public festival, which the city of Madrid had planned to offer the bride and groom as a gift, was also annulled in line with Felipe and Letizia's wishes. The funds are to go instead to finance a monument to the victims of the tragedy.
