From local towns have come olive oil, a cider press – along with freshly harvested apples sent over to the palace yearly – wine with personalised labels and even cherry trees to be planted in the garden of the newlyweds' home. Other wellwishers decided on a wilder option – somewhat exotic "pets".
A four-year-old purebred bull named 'Admirada' ("Admired"), to represent longevity and fertility, is among the royal gifts. Then there are the pair of European woodland grouse from Ernesto Junco, the proprietor of an Asturias zoo. Mr Junco received a letter from the palace accepting and thanking him for the gifts, but requesting that they remain at the zoo.
