A hush came over the guests in Ballintubber Abbey as they rose to greet the bride. The James Bond star was visibly moved and his eyes filled with tears. "When he saw her standing there," said his mother, May Carmichael, "he almost crumpled a little bit - you could just see what they mean to each other."

Standing in front of the altar, the couple faced each other and linked hands - Pierce caressing Keely's hands tenderly and reassuringly as they spoke the vows that would join them.
Pierce continued to hold Keely's hands as their rings were blessed, then slipped the band onto her finger. Keely then placed her new husband's ring on his hand. Throughout the prayer that followed this touching gesture, the two stood with fingers entwined.

Then, with just one candle burning to symbolise their union, Pierce and Keely paused while he lifted the veil to reveal her face. The couple kissed, then rested their foreheads against one another in a spontaneous moment of sweet communion.
The service over, the new Mr and Mrs Brosnan sign the register at Ballintubber Abbey
