Symbols Of Love

Jackie O received bouquets of flowers from second husband Aristotle Onassis. And the flowers often came with jewels like those seen here

"Big girls need big diamonds," the legendary actress once said. Never one to ignore Cleopatra's demands, in 1972 Richard Burton gave Liz a heart-shaped diamond set with rubies in a pendant for her 40th birthday. "This diamond has so many carats, it's almost a turnip," he said. Just three years before, he'd presented her with the famous Taylor-Burton diamond. (For more on that monstrous rock, see Elizabeth Taylor.)

David and Victoria Beckham are very fond of celebrating milestones with gemstones. On one chat show, Posh Spice sparkled in a £10,000 pendant - a jewelled panther climbing over her diamond-encrusted initials – which was a good luck gift from David as she prepared to release her debut solo single. Wherever her career is bound, the pendant promises to be a lovely keepsake for years to come.

And when Jackie O walked down the aisle with Aristotle Onassis, the shipping magnate bestowed $5 million in jewels on his beautiful bride. He used to slip Harry Winston gems in among the fresh flowers he sent her twice weekly, and the engagement ring he gave Jacqueline sold for $2.6 million at auction following her death in 1994.
All romantics know that a diamond is forever - especially when it's a gift. "I never hated a man enough to give him diamonds back," purred eight–times married Zsa Zsa Gabor.
