14, Kim made her first splash in the professional game at Wimbledon
1999, reaching the fourth round before losing to Steffi Graf.
Last autumn, she made the quarter-finals of the World Championship
in New York. And it looks like 2001 will be an even better year
for the 18-year-old Belgian. She scored her first win over Martina
Hingis in the semi-finals of California's Indian Wells tournament
before losing to Serena Williams and recently reached her first
Grand Slam final at the French Open.
This is the first time that Kim, who goes out with fellow tennis
player Lleyton Hewitt, has visited Rome. "The ancient ruins
are incredible but with so little time here I may have to pass
them over for a quick trip to Dolce & Gabbana and Gucci! I love
shopping and especially in Italy. Shoes are my passion
- but all my trainers are from Nike, my sponsor." At home, Kim
shops in Antwerp and buys anything from high-street names to
top designers. If she had a dream dress, it would be the vintage
Valentino that Julia Roberts wore to the Oscars. "Maybe I could
find one like that for the Wimbledon ball." |
