Wiltshire: Hinton Lodge, Great Hinton
Quaint and quirky, this Victorian cottage with
views over fields to Salisbury Plain could be a
rural idyll for two couples, or a family with
young children – the enclosed garden is safe,
and a cot and high chair are provided.
There’s
even an elegant four-poster in one bedroom,
and in the unlikely event of boredom (or bad
weather), a large selection of DVDs will keep
you happy by the fire. A ten-minute walk away is a well-regarded
eatery, The Linnet pub. If you prefer to
pedal, bicycles are available on request.
What to see: Within a 25-mile radius are the
prehistoric stone circles at Stonehenge and
Avebury as well as Longleat House with its
safari park. Don’t miss the chocolate-box
village of Castle Combe near Chippenham.
