A longtime champion of environmental causes, Hollywood legend Robert Redford jumped at the chance to acquire 6,000 acres of land in a stunning canyon in Utah back in the late 1960s to create an eco-friendly resort which would also promote the arts.
Rejecting suggestions from interested investors to fill the area with a string of high-rise hotels and private homes, the actor opted instead to create unique holiday accommodation that blended into the mountains and woodlands. He also made provision for top-rate skiing, riding, hiking and mountain biking, established a family nature reserve – and an events-packed art centre which today also hosts the world-famous Sundance Film Festival.
"Watch the moon climb over Mt Timpanogos from your cottage patio or enjoy a fireside dinner with friends in a mountain home and you'll begin to appreciate what Sundance is all about. To understand what's here you'll need to spend time inside the cottage community, just as you must spend time on the trails and slopes of the mountain to fully experience this wildlife preserve," advises the resort.
