Sting and family hit the slopes of stylish Cortina

Pop star Sting has been enjoying some snowy fun in Italy, taking to the slopes on a snowboard near the upmarket town of Cortina d’Ampezzo. The 53-year-old singer started off tentatively and took a few tumbles along the way, but by day’s end looked like a seasoned pro as he sped down the runs.

Accompanied by his daughter, the musician has been enjoying a holiday packed with winter fun at the exclusive resort. After an afternoon of boarding, the two took time out to enjoy a warm beverage together on a terraza at the resort.

Located two hours from Venice, in the heart of the awe-inspiring peaks of the Dolomites, the fashionable ski town of Cortina D'Ampezzo offers winter sports enthusiasts 51 ski lifts, plus 58 kilometres of cross country ski trails.

Like Tuscany, where Sting owns a villa, Cortina has long been a favourite second home to many wealthy Italians. It first garnered global attention when it played host to the 1956 Winter Olympics, and became even more popular when it was used as the backdrop for James Bond films and Sylvester Stallone’s 1993 film Cliffhanger.

The après-ski highlight of the day in Cortina is the animated passegiata or stroll along the pedestrian Corso Italia. Surrounded by ancient cobbled streets, the area buzzes with activity as the designer boutiques, jewellers and bars and cafés become alive with skiers fresh off the slopes.
