Palacio de Cutre: an elegant palace hotel in northern Spain

Just 20 kilometres from the Asturian coast, this charmingly refurbished, sixteenth-century palace is the perfect place for relaxing 'en famille', as Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg discovered on his recent family holiday.

Palacio de Cutre, Asturias

The countryside, natural scenery and the sea, local culture and fine regional and traditional cuisine... these are just some of the attractions of Asturias that Nick Clegg and his family have enjoyed this summer. And as their base they chose the Palacio de Cutre, a sixteenth-century palace complete with defensive wall, tower and chapel, set away from the main roads on a four-and-a-half-acre estate half-way between the northern coast of Spain and the Picos de Europa national park.

With its welcoming atmosphere, the hotel – refurbished with care and attention to historical details and decor – is ideal for a family holiday in the marvellous natural setting of the heart of Asturias, well away from the bustle and demands of everyday life. The deputy prime minister is not alone in his choice of retreat, and the charms of the Cutre Palace have appealed in the past to politicians, sportsmen, culture vultures and the literati.

A member of the gastronomic association 'Mesas Asturianas: excelencia gastronomica', the hotel is well located for exploring this beautiful but little-known region of northern Spain. It is close to Gijon and Oviedo, and within easy reach of some of the most spectacular Asturian beaches as well as the natural marvels of Picos de Europa. And there are other wonders tucked away, hidden between green valleys and clouds, that owners Javier and Sandra and their team will share with their guests to make your visit unforgettable.
