A question of golf

When autumn starts to brush gold and russet tints through the leaves, it's a perfect time to head for the greens of Spain's fine golf courses, where the days are still long, and the weather still good, but without the excessive summer heat.

That Spain is a favourite destination for golf lovers is well known. The country owes this reputation to two main factors: the climate and the world-class quality of the greens. And who would know the golf facilities better than the locals? Here we bring you a top ten list of golf resorts and hotels for golf enthusiasts chosen by the Spanish users of Trivago, the hotel price comparison site.

Grand Hotel Residencia (Maspalomas, Gran Canaria)

The chance to play a round of golf just a few metres from tall sand dunes, surrounded by palm trees, and with fine mountain views is one of the attractions offered by this five-star hotel located in Maspalomas on Gran Canaria. The perfect temperatures and proximity to eight high-class golf courses make the complex an ideal location to take time out and work on your handicap. In addition, complete golf days can be organised on your behalf, from reservations to transportation, as well as small international tournaments.

This seventeenth-century farmhouse is set in the protected area of Carmany dels Pals, in north eastern Spain, among the Mediterranean forests and meadows typical of the Costa Brava. Golf lovers can opt for two- to five-night packages, which include evening meals at the restaurant, access to the heated pool, sauna and jacuzzi and even a massage session. There are other sports on offer, too, as well as courses in tennis or golf, guided hiking and excursions in the region.
