Fiestas and festivals: What to do in Spain this summer

La Noche de San Juan, Barcelona (23-24 June)

Also known as the 'Night of Fire', the celebrations mark the summer solstice and the shortest night of the year. There are fiestas across Spain involving fireworks and artificial fires, none of which can be topped by those in Barcelona.

The focal point of the city's brilliant festivities is the Barceloneta beach, where many musical groups and DJs perform on the night, while the many squares of Catalonia's capital city also put on some intriguing displays. Locals usually head out early and have a big meal to prepare for the long night ahead. For a more relaxed view of the festivities, head for the hills above the city, or Montjuïc castle.

Where to stay: Hostel Bookers offer incledible hostels in all the cities of Spain and for a resonable price. Most of them located in the centre of the city.
