Best for... a cosy castle weekend

Pentillie Castle is one of the brightest stars in Wolsey Lodges' dazzling selection of luxury B&Bs. Warm hospitality and unique surroundings come as standard in the collection of private homes and Pentillie is no different.

An affectionate welcome awaits from the resident Labradors at this spectacular Cornish castle which is surrounded by a 2,000 acre estate and enjoys far reaching views over the dramatic River Tamar.

The castellated mansion, built by a local eccentric character Sir James Tillie in 1698, has been sensitively restored by the Coryton family. The nine tastefully styled bedrooms proudly house handsome antiques and guarantee a heavenly night's sleep in the V-spring beds. Bathrooms are equally impressive with powerful rain showers while some boast roll top baths.

The Coryton family are charming and unobtrusive hosts - the honesty bar, open fireplaces, old family photographs adorning the walls and timeless decor – all make for a cosy castle retreat.

A hearty breakfast of dry cured bacon and sausages from farms on the estate, their very own honey and apple juice, home-made jams, granola, breads and compotes will set you up for a morning exploring the beautiful gardens and grounds.

Like many of the Wolsey Lodges, a three-course dinner is available on request at Pentillie. HELLO! Online recommends planning your visit to coincide with one of their pop-up restaurant nights - renowned local chefs are invited to showcase their skills over seven exquisite courses using fabulous local produce in the stunning castle setting.

Rooms start at £100 per night on a bed and breakfast basis
