Traditional wedding nuptials in the heart of sunny Slovakia

11 OCTOBER 2012

After their first encounter in Wales back in 2007, Romeo Zitha married Janka in her home country, Slovakia, in customary local style in the town of Vranov nad Toplou.

Bride-to-be Janka had been anxiously waiting for four years for Romeo to ask the all important question, and was overjoyed when her groom proposed with a ring that was exactly what she would have chosen herself.

The happy couple were thrilled to share their day with close friends and family, some of whom travelled from as far afield as South Africa for the occasion. They were particularly excited that Romeo’s 86-year-old grandfather made it all the way to Slovakia.

And to set the scene, a traditional ceremony took place in an ancient Roman Catholic Baroque-style church dating back to the 15th century.

Janka’s mother complete the nuptuals with a rendition of Ave Maria while the organ echoed around the vast church walls, the perfect ending to the ceremony. Janka revealed to HELLO! Online that 'it was all very beautiful and emotional'.

At midnight, to mark the bride's transition to becoming a new wife, Janka's veil was taken off and her hair covered by a scarf. All women, in traditional Slovak dress, then welcomed her as a woman into their circle.
