The Breakfast Club: Photo your food

Five years ago, if you were at dinner with your friends and they started taking photos of their food, you would have thought they were mad! These days, however, taking a quick snap of your food and uploading it to Facebook or Instagram seems to be the thing to do.

Whether it be a fancy dish at a Michelin-starred restaurant or something we cooked ourselves, it is hard to resist taking a picture of our food to show off to our friends.

So let’s take a look at why we love capturing our favourite food moments:

1) We want to record a special occasion

Unless you are super rich or a celebrity, it is likely you only visit fancy restaurants on special occasions and it is something you want to remember. Taking a picture of your food is a great way to remind yourself of the evening and the fun you had.

2) The food looks like a work of art

In the past if we were presented with a meal that looked like a work of art we would have to memorise all the details of the food in order to relay them to our friends later. Now-a-days there is no need to play the memory game when you can capture the dish in all its glory with a simple snap on your camera phone.

3) We are really proud of something we made ourselves

If you have spent hours slaving away in the kitchen, you want to show off the delicious results of your hard work. That's why our Facebook feeds are full of friends posting pictures of their first-ever pie, roast dinners, trays of cupcakes and fancy-looking duck dishes.

We all want a bit of recognition for our hard work and, these days, that does not have to be limited to the people you live with, in fact now the whole world can see the meal that you just rustled up.

4) Modern technology makes it so quick and easy to do

If we still had to carry cameras around, take a photo of our pudding and nip down to the local high street to get the film developed, then we would rarely bother to take photos of our food.

Current technology such as smart phones makes it so simple though. All you have to do is grab your phone, take a photo, then press a button to share it to Facebook. Your friends can see your meal before you have even taken your first bite.

The ease and convenience makes it so simple to share pictures of our latest nosh, so why not get involved with Wink Bingo’s Breakfast Club? Our competition is simple and easy all you have to do is upload a picture of your favourite food to our Facebook page for a chance to win.

So what are you waiting for? Get snapping!
