Having met ten years ago at medical school, trainee general practitioner Mairi Macleod and her Royal Navy submariner doctor Michael Russell finally tied the knot in the place their romance first began – St Andrews, Fife.

The ceremony took place in the university's St Salvator chapel while the reception was held in the Lower and Upper College halls.

Joining the couple were friends and family from Plymouth and Northern Ireland, along with Mairi's family priest from Croy – who conducted the ceremony – Mairi's world-famous bagpiper uncle Roddy MacLeod and members of Michael's HMS Vengence crew, who kindly provided a guard of honour upon the couple's exit from the chapel.

The newlyweds and their wedding party enjoyed a traditional Scottish celebration, bagpipes included!
