Jemima Khan has sent her good wishes to ex-husband Imran Khan after the Pakistani politician confirmed that he has indeed remarried. On Monday, the former cricketer told reporters at Heathrow that he was flying home to "share the good news" about his wedding to former BBC weather presenter Reham Khan.

Imran had been visiting Britain so that he could personally break the news to the teenage sons he has with Jemima, Sulaiman and Kasim.

Once he had gone public his ex-wife posted a series of tweets congratulating him. She wrote: "I'll always love Pakistan. Thanks to my sons and the love I've been shown there, I'll always feel like an honorary Pakistani, no matter what. "She added: "I hope Imran will be happy in this new phase of his life."

In response the mother of two thanked well wishers, telling them she was "touched" by the messages of support.

However, the 40-year-old heiress-turned-activist certainly does not regard this as any kind of competition. It's been ten years since she and Imran divorced after marrying in 1995 and they have remained close friends ever since.

Rumours began to circulate last week that her ex had married. This prompted Pakistanis to tweet messages emphasising their admiration for Jemima, some even going so far as to say that she "would always be first lady" in their eyes.

Imran's new wife Reham is a divorced mother-of-three, who moved back to her native Pakistan in 2013 and began working for television channels there.

There had been confusion as to whether the 62-year-old statesman had married when his sister Aleema appeared not to know anything about the ceremony last week.

Asked about the marriage, she said: "Really? Really? Let's see if he announces it officially. I am taken aback. "This is a real challenge for him. We haven't met her and I don't know that we want to meet her. "It is his decision, he is a grown up. It is more important how the children feel. "I suppose in any situation like this the children will not feel good about it. They do look up to their father. "However, as early as last October Jemima hinted that a wedding was on the cards. The blonde beauty stated that she was considering reverting back to her maiden name Goldsmith because Imran would soon tie the knot again.
