The saying goes it's never too late to fall in love, and Cindy Crawford's mum was testament to exactly that. The supermodel's mother went one step further though, and chose to make it official by walking down the aisle and saying "I do".

Sharing the sweetest photo on Instagram of her mum Jennifer and her new stepfather Charlie, Cindy announced the joyous news to her 299,000 followers.

"Love keeps us young! Congrats mom and Charlie!!! #newlyweds," wrote an excited Cindy.

Cindy Crawford posted a sweet Instagram photo of her mum Jennifer and Jennifer's new husband Charlie

The snap showed Jennifer and Charlie enjoying their first kiss as husband and wife, standing against an idyllic backdrop of the sand and sea.

While Cindy, 49, didn't give much else away about the private ceremony, the wedding looks to have taken place in an exotic location, far from her family's native DeKalb, Illinois.

Cindy, who is married to Rande Gerber, has always enjoyed a close relationship with her mum. Jennifer became the head of the family when her daughter was just six years old, and she ended her marriage to Cindy's dad John Crawford.

Cindy Crawford said that growing up and seeing her mum struggle made her determined to be "financially independent"

Speaking previously about her parents' divorce, Cindy said: "Unfortunately my parents, you know, were one of those couples that didn't make it. When they finally did really get divorced, my father would give my mother money every week for child support."

The cover girl went on to say, during the episode of Oprah's Master Class, that her upbringing encouraged her to become financially independent.

"If he was mad at her because she'd gone out on a date or done something else, he wouldn't give her the money that week," said Cindy. "And that sometimes meant we didn't get grocery money or gas money. And I saw that and I was like, 'This will never happen to me. I will never be in that situation where I can't take care of myself.'"

She added back in 2013: "I'm lucky because in my career, I am financially independent. Even if I stopped working today, I could take care of myself."
