LARRY KING BECOMES HIGHEST-EARNING MALE BROADCASTER IN HISTORY

CNN interviewer Larry King has signed a deal which will earn him £10 million a year over the next four years, making him the highest-paid male journalist in broadcasting history.

The contract, which means a 100 per cent pay rise for the 68-year-old TV veteran, includes a number of perks, including stock options and the use of a private jet. Larry also garners a production deal with the network to develop new shows for CNN.

Larry is one of the most popular and well-respected interviewers in the world, with guests ranging from actor Tom Cruise to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, and is CNN’s top-rated personality with his show Larry King Live. “For the viewers, for Larry, for us, for everybody, it’s a great decision to know that Larry will be there in that position for years to come,” said Turner Broadcasting CEO Jamie Kellner.

The deal comes after competitive bids between the international news network and rival channel Fox News. The signing puts Larry in the salary league of US Today show presenter Katie Couric, who last month set records with her own contract negotiations with NBC.
