Stars heed Kevin's call at '24 hour' drama extravaganza

Most people would be up for a a bit of shut-eye after working around the clock, but screen stars including Vince Vaughan and Tamzin Outhwaite seemed to have plenty of energy left for partying after taking part in "24 hour plays" in London.

The two performers were among a series of screen talents who participated in the unusual show organised by Oscar-winner Kevin Spacey. British favourites Greta Scacchi and Tom Hollander also lent their talents to the fundraising event, along with Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels actor Dexter Fletcher and Emma Thompson's husband Greg Wise.

And those who went along to see the show were treated to such unusual sights as Nick Moran singing Frank Sinatra while doing battle with a six-foot, shotgun-wielding rabbit.

In his role as artistic director of the Old Vic Theatre, Kevin organised the event to raise money for the venue's New Voices programme, which gives opportunities to up-and-coming acting talents. His famous friends had their work cut out to make the extravaganza work, though, as they were called upon to write, rehearse and perform six new plays in the space of just 24 hours.

Perhaps unsurprisingly it was the writers who stayed up all night creating the hilarious scripts who were suffering most from fatigue. The acting talents also faced quite a challenge to learn their lines in the space of just a few hours, though, especially considering the fact that much of the dialogue was thought up in the midst of early morning exhaustion. One person who was showing no sign of tiredness, however, was Sixties star Susannah York, whose radiant appearance and youthful spiked hairstyle belied her 65 years.
