Ray Quinn's romantic Bolero earns him 'Dancing On Ice' champ title

After ten gruelling weeks of competition Ray Quinn skated to victory as the winner of Dancing On Ice 2009 on Sunday.

The 20-year-old singer – who finished in second place in 2006's X Factor – faced investigative journalist Donal MacIntyre in the final. Each tackled the Olympic gold medal-winning Bolero routine of mentors Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

And it was Ray, who earlier in the evening had secured two perfect scores of 30, who delivered the winning performance. "You capture the love story," judge Robin Cousins told him. "It blows me away."

After all his hard work Ray was evidently delighted to be crowned champion. "I'm absolutely speechless. I've been dreaming of this moment since the beginning," said the Liverpool-born star, who partnered Bulgarian former champion Maria Filippov on the show. "I'm so proud".

Earlier in the evening the contestants performed two routines each – their favourite dance from the competition and one that incorporated 'flying'. At this point former Liberty X singer Jessica Taylor bowed out of the final, having received the lowest public vote.
