Sitting next to Sean 'Diddy' Coombs is a sure sign that you've arrived. That honour fell on Russell Brand at a showbiz gathering in Las Vegas this weekend where the comic appeared to be keeping the king of bling entertained with some of his outrageous humour.

The new pals got aquainted at a celebrity-packed boxing match featuring British champion Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines.

Denzel Washington and Jay-Z were also ringside, while Tom Jones provided the tunes. Mel B and her husband showed up for the after party and another loved-up couple, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon were also in town for their first anniversary celebrations.

While British comedian Rusell was mingling with the Hollywood glitterati, there were also some positive developments back at home for him.

Andrew Sachs - the veteran actor at the centre of the answerphone controversy which resulted in Jonathan Ross' suspension and Russell's departure from BBC radio - thanked the pair for boosting his profile.

The Fawlty Towers star said things had been difficult for his family but he "came out of it very well". Since the incident, the 79-year-old has starred in the Christmas episode of Casualty and has been confirmed to appear in Coronation Street.
