Famous friends and family of Danny La Rue came together in London this week to pay their respects at the flamboyant entertainer's funeral. EastEnders actress Barbara Windsor, a friend of the comedian since she was 18, arrived with her husband Scott Mitchell to read a poem.

Ronnie Corbett was also at the private service at the Catholic Church of the Transfiguration in Kensal Rise. He described the performer, real name Daniel Patrick, as a "darling, darling man".

The veteran comic added: "We have all of us lost someone special and we were all privileged to have been at some time with him, and near him."

Ireland-born Danny, famous for his impersonations of female stars, including Dame Elizabeth Taylor and Zsa Zsa Gabor, died in his sleep last month following a short illness. He was 81.

Many show business pals sent floral tributes to the service, including Bruce Forsyth, Paul O'Grady and Dame Judi Dench. The card accompanying her bouquet of white roses read: "What memories, dearest Dan. Much love."
