Vampire romance Twilight sank its teeth into the competition at this year's Teen Choice Awards in California, swooping off with 11 trophies, including choice movie drama, liplock, and soundtrack.

Hunk of the moment Robert Pattinson was handed two of the outrageously large surfboard trophies – winning the male hottie and the movie drama actor categories. His on-screen love interest Kristen Stewart meanwhile walked off with the movie drama actress prize.

It was also a big night for comeback queen Britney Spears. The Womanizer singer, who last week was working her curves on a bikini shoot, was on bombshell form in a black sparkling minidress as she made an entrance in a swirl of smoke. The mum-of-two was called to the stage to collect a lifetime achievement award - at the grand old age of 27.

Singing siblings the Jonas Brothers also fared well at the awards, which are voted for by teenagers in the US. After kicking off the show with a performance, the boys – who co-hosted the night - bagged themselves five trophies including male red carpet icons and breakout TV show for Jonas

Cheers from the trio's female fans at one point turned from screams of delight to horror, however, as boxer Mike Tyson took a pair of scissors to Joe's curly locks and began cutting it off. It remains to be seen whether the trim was real or part of a stunt - American fans can find out when the ceremony is screened stateside on August 10. Also taking to the stage to perform was Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus, who picked up an impressive slew of six awards.
