With the X Factor auditions now completed, Dannii Minogue had a little time on her hands before the new series of the show really gets underway. So the pretty brunette hot-footed it back to Sydney this week to surprise her boyfriend Kris Smith in time for his birthday on Thursday.
This meant she was also on hand to watch the handsome former rugby player strut his stuff on the catwalk Down Under the previous day.
As Kris, 31, finished rehearsals for the Myer fashion show, his manager told him he was needed for a photo call outside. He was then ushered into a BMW, and, to his delight, Dannii was waiting for him in the back of the car.
"It took a year of planning to get past everyone," the Australian singer told the Herald Sun of the surprise. "The best you can do is surprise someone."
Judging by the smile on Kris' face as the happy couple walked the red carpet together ahead of the spring/summer show, her efforts really paid off. And by the time it came down to the fashion action, it was Dannii's turn to look truly smitten.
Following in the footsteps of Elle Macpherson by wearing a Victoria Beckham black bandeau dress, the beaming 37-year-old applauded as her bare-chested beau paraded down the runway. "I may just run onto the stage and jump him," she gushed.
The couple's affection this week has further fuelled reports that an engagement is on the cards. But for the time being, Dannii and her British love can enjoy quality time in each other's company.
The new series of the X Factor hits screens on August 22 with the pre-recorded audition material, giving Dannii a break from the show until October which she will use to spend time in her homeland.
