Stepping back in time to play a Forties temptress has clearly had a deep impact on Anna Friel – in the sartorial sense anyway. The 33-year-old actress, who portrays Holly Golightly in the new West End production of Breakfast At Tiffany's, has been sweeping out of the stage door in a series of retro outfits following preview performances. She even admits to keeping a stack of heels and hats in her dressing room so she can pull off an authentic look for fans and autograph hunters. Highlights of her special 'going home' ensembles have included a bottle green crocheted shift teamed with a pillar box red vintage hat and over coat. She also turned heads in a striking high-collared dress with three-quarter length sleeves. And the icing on the cake was the beautiful satin number with lace-trimmed capped sleeves she wore for the press night after-party. Anna's opening night show received a warm reception from critics, who dubbed her portrayal of the gold-digging fantasist as "disconcertingly adorable".The former Brookside beauty has warned theatre-goers not to expect a stage version of the 1961 film starring Audrey Hepburn, which was adapted from the Truman Capote novella of the same name. This was set in the Forties whereas the film version was adapted to the Sixties."One of the scary things at first for me was thinking 'Gosh! People will assume they're coming to see an Audrey Hepburn impression' and that won't be happening," she says.
