Mel C treads the boards as stories of Spice Girls West End show surface

Ending her maternity leave next week, former Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm is about to try her hand at something new – treading the boards in London's West End.

But as she prepares to play Mrs Johnstone - a mother who was forced to give away one of her twin sons - in Blood Brothers, there's been rumblings Mel might have a more Spicy theatre production in the works.

The 35-year-old, who welcomed daughter Scarlet in February, is reportedly planning with the rest of her Spice Girl colleagues to bring the band's story to the stage.

Mel, along with Melanie Brown, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham are said to be in talks to launch a How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria-style programme to find the cast for the show.

They will sit on a panel, pass judgment and give advice to contestants, who will compete to play versions of them in a musical, reports the Sun newspaper.

There are suggestions it could be called Spice Idol, as the band's former manager Simon Fuller - who owns the rights to Pop Idol - is helping with the idea.
