In super-dad style, Kevin Pietersen races to be with wife for son's birth

England cricketer Kevin Pietersen is officially on daddy duty.

The talented batsman and his ex-popstar wife, Jessica Taylor, welcomed a healthy baby boy Monday, saying in a statement, "The baby was born this morning without complication and both baby and Jessica are doing brilliantly."

Still, making it to the hospital was no simple task for new dad Kevin, who was playing in a tournament in Barbados when he received news about the impending birth.

Without delay, he hopped on a plane and travelled more than 4,000 miles to be able to welcome his new son into the world.

"It's my first child so it's a hell of an exciting time for me," Kevin revealed before leaving the Caribbean. "I'll be dashing across the Atlantic and hopefully dashing back."

The sportsman, who left after a stellar performance against South Africa, plans to spend a few days with his wife and still unnamed son and will return to the Caribbean to play in the semi-finals at the end of the week.

Kevin was always prepared to leave the World Twenty 20 tournament early if Jessica went into labour and says the birth was "the most amazing experience of my life".

The first-time parents married in a winter-wonderland themed wedding in December 2007.
