Fresh start and short new 'do for Janet Jackson as Michelle Obama debuts curls Perhaps it was in honour of her 44th birthday earlier in the week, or, as reports suggest, to celebrate the start of a new romance.

Whatever the reasons, Janet Jackson made quite a statement as she stepped out in London having ditched her long locks.

It seems the Together Again star has decided to remove her curly hair extensions, leaving behind her natural hair, and a new bold image.

The singer wore her new shorn style slicked back against her head as she exited a top Mayfair restaurant in the company of Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana, with whom the US star has reportedly started a romance.

Last summer Janet split with her long-term love Jermaine Dupri – the couple had been dating for seven years – and is now thought to have found love with wealthy 35-year-old Wissam.

She is currently in the British capital promoting her new film, Why Did I Get Married Too?

And while Janet was going au naturel, another famous face was debuting a youthful new style.

Michelle Obama unveiled sophisticated corkscrew curls as she hosted a state dinner with her husband for the President of Mexico and his wife.

Stunning in a cobalt blue one-shouldered gown by US designer Peter Soronen, the mum-of-two looked incredibly glamorous at the White House gathering.

Her fabulous fashion sense seemed to have inspired at least one of the guests – Eva Longoria Parker.

Having made headlines on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, the Desperate Housewives beauty - one of 200 invitees including Whoopi Goldberg and George Lopez – also favoured an asymmetrical design, this time in orange silk.
