Amanda Holden's joy at Ascot win as Sophie Wessex finds herself in a sticky situation There's no better way to spend a sunny summer's day than sipping champagne at the races.

So enjoying the first day of Royal Ascot with her girlfriends, Amanda Holden had every reason to be in high spirits.

As guests of showbiz supremo Simon Cowell, the ladies - including Jackie St Claire and Danielle Bux, who is alone while her football pundit husband Gary Lineker is on duty at the World Cup in South Africa – were being entertained in lavish style.

And Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda was in luck as she twice backed a winner.

Ahead in the style stakes as well, the vivacious blonde wowed the crowds in a striking vibrant turquoise headpiece adorned with five smaller hearts on curved wires.

It was clearly a favourite shade as the Queen was also in a cheery aqua combination - though her ensemble of a print dress teamed with black low-heeled court shoes and handbag was more in keeping with the Royal Enclosure.

Her daughter-in-law, Sophie Countess of Wessex gave fellow racegoers a giggle when one of her designer heels got caught in the parade ring turf.

The royal smiled gamely as she attempted to retrieve her shoe with the help of a gallant racegoer, who'd come to her aid.

Others at the races included England star Michael Owen, 31, TV explorer Bear Grylls, 36, and BBC newsreader Kate Silverton.
