'X Factor': Cheryl Cole puts her favourite Cher through after sore throat stalls audition

It was another emotional edition of X Factor this week after Cher Lloyd feared she'd messed up her audition at the judges' houses stage of the competition.

The 17-year-old broke down in front of Cheryl Cole and Black Eyed Peas singer Will-i-am after struggling to sing with a sore throat.

But her tears of sadness were replaced with tears of joy, when Cheryl decided to put her through to the final, based on earlier performances.

She told her: "It is one of the hardest decisions I can genuinely say I've made in the three series that I've done, because my heart and my head are pulling in completely different directions."

Cheryl also put through platinum-haired Katie Wassell, who also struggled to keep her composure while singing Charlie Chaplin song Smile.

Completing the lineup was single mum Rebecca Ferguson, but there was shock when Zimbabwean singer Gamu Nhengu, was given a "no". She had been an early favourite to win the competition.
